Rest In Peace Johnny Gimble

May 11, 2015

My sincere condolences to the Gimble family with the news that Mr. Johnny Gimble has passed away.  He was a great man and a great Fiddler and he will be missed so much.  Mr. Gimble was my favorite fiddler and I learned so much from him.  He was a huge inspiration to me and his contribution to the Music world was tremendous.  He was, in my opinion, the best and there will never be another one like him.  Thank you Mr. Gimble for bringing me and millions of fans so much joy.  Rest in Peace.

2014 Fiddler’s Frolics and TX Fiddler’s Hall of Fame at Hallettsville, TX

April 28, 2014

I wasn’t able to attend the 2014 Fiddler’s Frolics this past weekend in Hallettsville, TX but I was able to listen to the fiddler’s contest on Texas Thunder Internet Radio and it was great! I recommend anyone unable to attend next year to listen to the live broadcast for a great experience. Congratulations to Bubba Hopkins for winning and retaining the Texas State Fiddle Champion title. And congratulations to Johnny and Jason Crisp on their induction into the Texas Fiddlers Hall of Fame. They are the first Father and Son to be inducted at the same time. That’s an amazing accomplishment and a credit to their life long contribution and support of Texas Style Fiddling. The Franklin family has always enjoyed playing and supporting Texas Style Fiddling and the Fiddler’s Frolics. I’m proud of my nephew, Jason Andrew who placed 5th overall this year. Way to go Jason! And I have to say Wade Stockton and Wayne Massengale were awesome as the Emcee’s! The Fryer family and all the great folks who make this event possible deserve a lot of credit for making this the favorite event of the year for so many fiddlers and their families. Check out this cool Brown Jug I received in 1972.
